Art I, Photography I & II, Painting and Drawing I& II, Pottery I,II & III, Advanced Art
Art I
This course is designed as a foundation for all other art courses. There will be assignments in class which relate to basic elements in art such as line, shape, form, texture, spatial relationships and color. Other principles of art will also be introduced like composition, contrast, expression of ideas and creativity. Students will use ink, pencil, markers, watercolor, charcoal, pastels, colored pencil, acrylic paint and clay.
Painting and Drawing I & II
This course is available for artists of all levels from beginners to the more experienced. Pencil, charcoal, colored pencil, pastels, oil pastels, watercolors and acrylic paints are all used. Drawing and painting techniques are practiced and improved on a daily basis. A wide variety of subject matter is used to motivate and inspire students ranging from still lifes and landscapes to abstractions of all kinds.
Advanced Painting and Drawing - This course is available to students who would like to pursue art at a very high level. Students should be dedicated and motivated to work hard toward excellence. Instructor approval is required for this upper level course for seniors and some juniors.
Photography I & II
Photography I - The art of photography is introduced. The use of light is emphasized. Camera parts and there use are studied. It is a digital course. Data is processed on the computer and printed in the classroom. A large number of techniques and methods are used. Great photographers in history are observed. Many inspirational assignments are offered and explored. Photoshop skills are introduced and developed
Photography II - This course builds upon student success in Photography I. Each student must have a strong desire to pursue advanced photos outside of the school day. Technique is explored and performed at a very high level of expertise. Expression of ideas and social statements by the artist about the world we live in are emphasized. Instructor approval is required to register for Photography II. To help students be successful, Photography I and Photography II are not to be taken during the same school year.
Advanced Photography- This course is available to students who would like to pursue art at a very high level. Students should be dedicated and motivated to work hard toward excellence. Instructor approval is required for this upper level course for seniors and some juniors.
Pottery I, II, & III
Pottery I - During this class students will learn about clay bodies, clay tools, the stages of clay, firing clay, glazes and all construction techniques. Hand building will be the primary method used. Sculpture and throwing on the wheel will be introduced. A wide variety of projects will be made by students.
Pottery II - This class is a continuation of Pottery I but will move forward as the level of difficulty increases. Projects will be more challenging in terms of problem solving required both in construction methods and artistic expression of ideas. Abstract thought and technique will be explored. A wider variety of glazes will be introduced. Individual style will be explored and cultivated. Instructor approval required to register for this course. Pottery I and Pottery II are not to be taken during the same school year.
